IMAGE Data Systems and Formats Workshop

NASA Goddard Space Flight Center
Greenbelt, MD 20771
Bldg. 26, Room 105
07-09 January 1998

Background

There will be a meeting at GSFC in building 26 on January 7-9, 1998 to discuss the design and development of the Science Mission Operations Center level 1 and level 0 Web environments and data formats. January 7th is set aside for informal discussions and working meetings with Rick Burley and his SMOC Team. Several of the Theory and Modeling Team members are busy preparing simulated level 1 Common Data Format (CDF) files in preparation for the meeting. These files are currently based on the format specified in the "IMAGE Mission specifications for Definition of Level 0 and Level 1 Data Products" document, Version 0, Revision 0, dated June 15, 1997. Within that document are skeleton CDF file formats for all instrument level 1 data, which were developed by Chris Gurgiolo following interviews with the various instrument teams.

It is important that T&M Team members work with the Instrument Teams in developing the simulated instrument products and in evaluating the viability of the current data product specifications. Instrument Teams are ultimately responsible for writing the necessary software to place their measurements in the appropriate formats and, therefore, have the lead in defining the data formats in cooperation with the SMOC Team lead by Rich Burley. The draft agenda appears below. The meeting on the 8th and 9th will be plenary and last a day and a half. Questions about the meeting can be directed to Dennis Gallagher (Dennis.Gallagher@msg.msfc.nasa.gov), Jim Green (James.L.Green@gsfc.nasa.gov), or Rick Burley (Rick.Burley@gsfc.nasa.gov). Those who plan to attend the meeting should notify one of us, so that appropriate arrangements can be made by our hosts.
