IMAGE & Wind Prove Future Mission Concept
On two Wind perigee passes the Radio Plasma Imager (RPI) on IMAGE generated 828 kHz
signals which were observed by Wind/Waves
Distance between IMAGE and Wind varied from 6 to 12 RE
Researchers include: Cummer (Duke), & R. Benson, J. Green, M. Kaiser, and M. Reiner
(all from GSFC)
Faraday rotation was measured and occurs when the received electric field is observed
to rotate with time due to the changing density of plasma
Many future multi-spacecraft missions propose to use Faraday rotation to obtain global
density pictures of the magnetosphere
