Mid-Latitude Coupling During Geomagnetic Recovery Intervals M. Spasojevic Coupling between the magnetosphere and ionosphere occurs during all phases of geomagnetic activity. We focus here on mid-latitude coupling particularly between the plasmasphere and ionosphere during the periods of recovery between geomagnetic storms. We will review past work from early discoveries using whistler remote sensing to recent results from global imaging. Topics to be covered include the interchange of ionization between the ionosphere and the plasmasphere, quiet time electric field patterns and deviations from corotation, as well as irregular plasmaspheric density structures from global to micro-scales. We will also examine wave-particle interactions within the quiet time plasmasphere, their effects on the ring current and radiation belts, and resulting ionospheric impacts. _______________ Global Aspects of Magnetosphere-Ionosphere Coupling, 2006 Yosemite Workshop, Yosemite National Park, CA, USA, 7-10 February 2006
