Is it pitch black in the center of the Earth?

No. The center of the Earth is at a temperature of about 6,400 K. This means the matter there, although very dense, emits electromagnetic radiation with the same color as the surface of the Sun. Far from being pitch black, the matter in the core radiates light like a miniature star!
