The communication system uses a 5 watt, S-band transponder. It will transmit 1.78 billion bits of data to the ground tracking station each day. At a speed of 2,200,000 bits/sec, each daily 'dump' of accumulated data will take 13.5 minutes. Data will be accumulated and stored each day on the satellite until a data dump can be scheduled each day. As a comparison, a fast modem used on the internet has a rating of 28.8 kilobits/sec. At the same rate, it would take you 17.1 hours to 'download' this data!
