IMAGE Satellite Scaling

By: Ms. Susan Higley (Cherry Hill Middle School)

Grades 6-9

Students will apply the formula for the volume of a rectangular prism to calculate the volume of the instruments on the IMAGE satellite.

Students will apply the concepts of doubling, tripling, and quadrupling to determine patterns and relationships between the cost and the mass of the instruments.

Students will discover that it is important to know how the cost and capabilities of the satellite will change as the dimensions are varied.
