Equatorial Ion Pitch Angle Distributions from ENA Images from IMAGE J. D. Perez, X. Zhang, and M.-C. Fok The IMAGE satellite is acquiring energetic neutral atom (ENA) images of the Earth's ring current over a range of approximately 1 keV to 100 keV from the MENA and HENA instruments. We will use a deconvolution technique based upon Bayesian statistics to construct equatorial pitch angle distributions from the ENA images. The resulting ion distributions will be compared with predictions of the Fok/Moore ring current model. Storm development and the evolution of injection fronts along with questions regarding the filling of the loss cone of the trapped ions and the contribution of low altitude oxygen to the neutral atom images will be addressed. ________________ Presented at the Seventh Huntsville Workshop - A New View of Geospace: Integration, Interpretation and Synthesis October 30 - November 3, 2000, Callaway Gardens, Georgia
